Help
Art and Design
Art and design students have designed the sun dial and other various pieces of ironwork that are planned for the garden. They are also helping with other aspects of garden design such as a mural on the back wall and banners for the end of term grand opening.
Construction
the construction department have participated fully in the project and in addition to the bird and insect feeders they have created, they have also built a brick shed for the storage of all the garden tools
IT Department
During June, 2 students from our IT department developed the internet site out of the information provided by other students. They helped to design both content and style and this is now used to publicise the progress of the garden by all involved.
Fabrication and Welding
with the help of some designs from Art and Design have created the impressive sculptures in the garden. These are the sun dial and the geese that can be viewed on the photo page.
The final department to join the fun was the catering department. The students have devised the idea of growing a herd garden that they can use in the training restaurant. They are currently researching what herbs they would use and how best to plant them.
Students
In the addition to this we have worked with a local horticulture to develop a plan for the planning to ensure we get the correct plants to attract wildlife and will grow in the area we have chosen. The launch and Special Needs students will then take the lead on the planting with assistance from anyone else who may wish to join. We have asked the student association to encourage its members to get involved.
From other curriculum areas we have been able to draw in a lot of expertise. Currently the following departments have started work; Fabrication and Welding have undertaken to make wrought iron work for the garden. They have recently finished a sundial and are currently working on a sculpture of a bird for the garden. After this is completed they will begin work on a wrought iron screen for the entrance to the garden. |
