Blooming Excellent

It’s been a celebration of spring time with the plethora of daffodils that have appeared in Deeside College’s Learning Garden.

Staff and students at the college have spent the last 10 months completing ground work on the Learning Garden project and are now starting to see their hard work come to life.

A piece of land on the side of the college was selected last summer to be developed into a garden area, which will allow students from across the campus to take part in gardening, garden design, art and construction activities.

The aim of the Learning Garden project is to increase young people’s awareness of their local environment and educate them how to enhance and preserve it for future generation.

The development of the garden has been supported with the generous donation of materials and equipment from a number of local businesses, such as Jimsul, Castle Cement, Barlows Electrical Palm Signs, MC Supplies, Ringwood fencing, Delyn Hire and Hewden Hire.

Deeside College students Steven Thomas and Mark Roughly enjoy the array of daffodils that have appeared in the college’s learning garden.

Funding for the rest of the materials required to transform the piece of land has been secured through an Award for All Wales lottery grant.

Further funding has also been given by the Education and Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship fund administered through the Welsh Assembly.

Deeside College is aiming to complete the Learning Garden by August.
