Wildlife garden takes shape at college
A new wildlife and learning garden is starting to take shape at a Flintshire college. Students and staff at Deeside college, Connah's Quay, have spent six months building their own garden.
They are transforming a piece of land at the side of the college into an area where students can take part in gardening and other activities.
The students recently complete the groundwork for the garden and are hoping it will be completed by August
Supported
In the meantime, the students are going to set up a website updating friends and colleagues on their daily progress.
The site will explain what they have done so far and will be aimed in particular at pen pals in South Africa taking part in similar projects, and other countries.
The learning garden will help increase young people's awareness of their local environment and teach them how to enhance and preserve it for future generations.
It has been supported with sponsorship, materials and equipment from local businesses, including Jimsul, Castle Cement, Barlows Electrical Palms Signs, MC Supplies, Ringwood Fencing, Delyn Hire and Hewden Hire.
Funding has also come from an Awards for all Wales lottery grant and the Welsh Assembly.
